The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the arts of performing, and which is now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her to her place in the "child prodigy" category. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family, this came naturally. Maureen was welcomed into the sanctity of family on August 17, 1920, at Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed an enterprise in Dublin as well as owned a part of the renowned Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and loved rough games. In addition to this she was gifted for acting. The fact that she was awarded nearly all the Feis awards for her native country's theater and drama proved this. At the age of 14, she was admitted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater and operatic singing.
